On June 19th, the School of Management held the 2023 Commencement Ceremony in the Lecture Hall. Participants included Hu Yanhua (Chairman of the Board), Yang Zhi (Dean of the School), Vice Dean Wang Haijun (Vice Dean), Dai Xin (Vice Dean), Li Jianbin (Vice Dean), Liu Zhiqiang (Vice Dean), Chen Pinglu (Chairman of the Labor Union), Zhao Xuefeng (Assistant Dean), along with department heads, Party secretaries of the faculty, head teachers of the 2019 cohort, teachers from administrative offices, and all school counsellors. Tan Jing ( Vice Chairman of the Board) presided over the ceremony.
With the solemn national anthem playing, the commencement ceremony begins. Hu Yanhua presented certificates to outstanding graduates as well as those who would be employed in challenging China western regions, grassroots organizations, and national key units, and took photos with them. She said that “students from the school not only presented their glorious youth on the campus of Huazhong University of Science and Technology but also blossomed their youth on the vast land of our motherland. They will resonate with patriotic sentiments, unwavering dedication and the country, as well as move forward hand in hand with the times.”
As the undergraduate student representative, Ma Chengchen expressed gratitude for the valuable opportunities provided by the school and sincerely thanked the institution for its meticulous cultivation. She stated that students will continue their efforts, working at the forefront of scientific innovation, contributing to rural revitalization, and serving society, thereby writing a golden chapter in their youth.
A representative of postgraduate students Wu Binrong looked back on his nine years at HUST and shared the moments and experiences that led him to choose the path of scientific research. He mentioned that the journey of self-growth through research is full of challenges and opportunities. During times of confusion, one must firmly remember to “focus on the main economic battlefield and major national needs,” keep in mind his/her original mission, remain steadfast in academic ideals, and contribute to the country’s scientific research endeavors.
Faculty representative Guan Xu first congratulated his fellow students on successfully completing their studies and achieving remarkable results. He mentioned that the school, with its rigorous and down-to-earth academic style and comprehensive education philosophy, has nurtured students and endowed them with qualities of diligence, pragmatism, and comprehensive development. He encouraged everyone to continue being humble, courageous, and honest, to root themselves in various industries, contribute their youthful energy, and remember that alma mater will always be students’ harbor.
Dean Yang began by congratulating the students on successfully completing their studies on behalf of the college. He pointed out that the youth of this generation are crucial for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and are the “seeds” tasked with leading the charge.
He imparted three pieces of advice to the students: first, “Having lofty aspirations allows one to have a broad vision,” emphasizing the importance of steadfast ideals and beliefs; second, “Upholding virtues enables one to gather strength and plan for the future,” highlighting the need to cultivate moral character and resilience; and third, “Taking firm steps leads to steady progress and far-reaching achievements,” stressing the importance of honing practical skills and confidence.
Finally, he reminded everyone that no matter where they are or what they are doing, the school will always welcome them back with the warmest love.
In the heartfelt rendition of the original graduation song “Memories,” the graduates sang about the youth they spent together at HUST, paid tribute to unforgettable teachers, recalled the school's teachings, and pledged to strive with determination, embody the spirit of youth, live up to the times, and achieve excellence.
