MEM Program

Program Introduction: The School of Management at Huazhong University of Science and Technology is one of the first units in the country to cultivate Master of Engineering Management (MEM) professionals. The program is dedicated to nurturing high-level composite talents in engineering management with a global perspective, strategic thinking, expertise in the field of engineering management, the ability to integrate engineering technology and management, a strong sense of social responsibility, and professional ethics.

Program Objectives: To establish a high-level talent hub for engineering management and a platform for high-level engineering management professionals, making the MEM program a top-tier education project in China.

Program Highlights: Integration of Management and Engineering, Intelligent Operations

l International Integration: The MEM program at Huazhong University of Science and Technology leverages the university's engineering strengths, industrial service platforms, and domestic and international cooperative resources. Focused on national strategic needs, the program innovatively combines the Master of Engineering Management degree education with the International Project Management Professional (IPMP) certification, creating an applied talent development model. The curriculum aligns with the IPMP international project management qualification certification. The school collaborates with the well-known foreign universities to offer short-term study abroad programs, providing students with an international exchange platform.

l Driven by Projects, Focused on Practical Education: 90% of the MEM program faculty have industry experience. The faculty team has undertaken several major national social science fund projects, key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. MEM students actively participate in mentor-led research projects to cultivate practical management abilities. The "dual mentor" model runs through the entire talent development process, with multiple industry experts serving as enterprise mentors, providing various forms of collaborative education such as lectures, classroom teaching, and thesis guidance to support the enhancement of students' engineering and management skills.

MEM Curriculum

The MEM program offers specialized directions in project management, data-driven enterprise management, lean operations management, intelligent supply chain management, and engineering economic management.

The curriculum integrates industry trends and the latest technologies, emphasizing a balance between theory and practice. It features a curriculum system that combines deep professional modules, new economy and technology modules, knowledge integration, and action learning modules. Various teaching methods, such as classroom teaching and seminars, simulation training and case studies, company visits, and mobile classrooms, are employed. Situational teaching based on real-world examples is used to share experiences from integrated technology and management in engineering practice projects, helping students enhance their practical abilities, professional ethics, and broaden their international and industry perspectives.

MEM Student Profile: By 2023, there are 130 students in the MEM program, with 103 male students and 27 female students, with a male-to-female ratio of 3.82:1. The average age is 32 years old, with an average work experience of 10 years. The distribution of students' industries of origin is as follows: manufacturing accounts for 32%, technical/engineering services account for 38%, IT/Internet accounts for 19%, automotive and parts account for 8%, and others account for 3%. MEM students make full use of the school's technological and talent advantages, serve society, and emphasize practical results. MEM students have made outstanding contributions in areas such as serving national and regional economic and social development, innovation in the engineering industry, and solving major engineering management problems, including their participation in the construction of Huoshenshan Hospital, Leishenshan Hospital, and the Huxi River comprehensive governance project. A paper written by MEM students, "Comprehensive Consultation (Management) Practice of the Entire Process of the Huxi River Comprehensive Governance Project," won the second prize in the regional competition of the National MEM Case Competition, and the project was awarded the title of "First Place in the Hubei Province Happy River and Lake Demonstration."
