The Journal of Management Studies Publishing Development Workshop will be held at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China, on 30–31 October 2026. Hosted by the Journal of Management Studies (JMS) and organized by School of Management, the workshop is designed to support scholars who are developing manuscripts for submission to leading international journals in management and organization studies.
The workshop will offer participants the opportunity to engage directly with JMS editors and senior scholars, receive developmental feedback on their work, and deepen their understanding of what makes a strong theoretical contribution. It will combine plenary sessions, methodological discussions, and small-group paper development sessions.

GENERAL EDITOR

Johann Fortwengel
Johann Fortwengel is a Professor of International Management and the Head of Department, Strategy, International Management & Entrepreneurship at King's Business School. His research focuses on how multinational enterprises navigate their operations across institutional and country differences. Johann's work has appeared in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of World Business, Organization Science, and Strategic Organization, among other outlets. He currently serves as the General Editor of JMS, starting his term on 1 January 2026.
ASSOCIATE EDITORS

Patrick Haack
Patrick Haack is Full Professor of Strategy and Responsible Management at HEC Lausanne, University of Lausanne. His research focuses on organization and management theory, social evaluations (especially legitimacy and reputation), and microfoundations. His work has appeared in top-tier journals including Academy of Management Review, Journal of Management, and Organization Science. In addition to his research, he serves as Director of the HEC Research Center for Grand Challenges and has held several leadership roles within the university. He also served as Associate Editor at the Academy of Management Review from 2020 to 2023.

Lin Cui
Lin Cui is a Professor of Strategy and International Business at the Research School of Management,Australian National University. Lin’s research interests include international business strategies and business innovation and entrepreneurship. His recent research investigates the impacts of institutional environment, business network and governance structure, and firm resources and strategic leadership on firm strategies and performance. Lin’s work has been funded through major competitive research grant schemes and published in renowned academic journals including Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Operations Management, among other. Lin is an associate editor of Journal of Management Studies, a senior editor of International Business Review, while serving on the editorial boards of other leading scholarly journals.

• Crafting a theoretical contribution and selecting the right target journal
• How to do high-quality qualitative research
• Paper development sessions with 10-minute presentations and 20-minute Q&A/mentoring feedback
2. Submission Guidelines
Applicants should submit either a full paper or an extended abstract in English. Submissions should clearly indicate the research question, theoretical background, core argument or hypotheses, research design or methodology, findings where available, and intended contribution. Each participant may submit only one manuscript.

4. Travel and Logistics
At least one author from each accepted submission is required to attend the workshop and present the paper. The workshop will be free of charge for participants with accepted submissions. Refreshments, lunch, and dinner will be provided. Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel and accommodation expenses.
